KOC Tests Preparedness
Major Incident Training at North Kuwait

The Company’s capability in facing major incidents was tested on October 7th by conducting a major incident drill in North Kuwait. KPC was also involved. DMD (NK) Hosnia Hashim supervised the drill.
The incident started at 7:35 am when a KOC normal patrol noticed a leak at a pipeline coming from GC 25. The leak was estimated by 10,000 barrels. Immediately upon declaring a “major incident,” fire fighting units and Crisis Management Unit were rushed to the scene and a CCTV connection was established with the Crisis Management Center located at the Main Office – Ahmadi.
Following the appearance of H2S, as set by the scenario, and office evacuation was carried out according to KOC’s procedures and under the supervision of State Civil Defense. A fire broke out at the HP gas pipeline coming out of BS 131. Consequently, all GCs were shut down at the North, while other GCs in Kuwait increased production to offset the production gap.
Other KOC units were also involved, such as the Ahmadi hospital, Crisis Management Center, State Fire Brigade and Oil & Vital Installation Security Department.
The training proved the Company’s ability in facing various kinds of emergency. KOC implements a non-stop training program to limit human and property loss in such cases.
