Gas Field Development Symposium Concluded
In the presence of local and international oil and gas companies and experts, C&MD, Sami Al-Rushaid, opened the Gas Field Development Symposium on November 27th, 2008. The 3-day event was organized by the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science.
“Contrary to our previous strategies, our 2030 strategy, updated just a few days ago, focuses on the development of natural gas as a vital part in reaching our aspired goal of 2.5 billion C/F per day of free gas production for use in our power stations. This will be added to a total production of 1.2 billion C/F of associated gas - without the divided zone,” Al-Rushaid stated in his inaugural speech.
“Last July, we inaugurated the Early Production Facility (EPF) in North Kuwait with a 175 million C/F of gas and 50,000 barrels per day capacity of condensate. This demonstrates our wish and commitment in bringing gas production online as quickly as possible. We are also working on building more EPF units,” he continued.
Al-Rushaid pointed out that after many years of unyielding effort, free gas has recently been discovered in Kuwait’s deep Jurassic fields. “This discovery gave us momentum to expand our exploration activities to other layers all over Kuwait, including offshore areas.”
He said that the figures in the KOC Strategy are not up to the aspired expectations. “We do hope, however, that this Symposium will be a suitable platform to enhance our capabilities in finding additional gas reservoirs,” Al-Rushaid concluded.
General Manager, KISR, Dr. Naji Al-Mutair, also spoke at the start of the session. He outlined the challenges facing the development of Kuwait’s gas fields. “We have to rely on innovative technologies to overcome these challenges.”
