Ahmadi Festival

 

The first Ahmadi Sports Day was organized in 8th March’ 1974. That year the event consisted of games and tournaments for both individuals and teams. A special feature of the first year’s competition was the performance of a show by the Kuwait Army and Police Forces. More than 5000 Athletes from every Sports Club, Ministry, Institute and Company in Kuwait participated in that first competition. Closing ceremonies that year were attended by some 10,000 spectators, including Kuwaiti nationals and expatriates. KOC awarded a championship cup to each winning team that year. 
    
First Three years the winner was Al-Arabi Club, 4th year (1977) Al-Qadesiya Club, 5th year (1978) Army Federation.  
    
In 13th March’ 1998 the KOC re-launched the annual event to the delight of thousands of athletes, spectators and supporters. Held under the patronage of His Excellency the Governor of Ahmadi Sheikh Ali Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, this year’s event, the first since Liberation seven years ago, featured more than 3,000 athletes and more than 10,000 participants, spectators, supporters and organizers. 
    
The 13th Ahmadi Sports Day competition included 197 teams doing battle in Five separate sporting contests, plus a wide variety of other games, races and entertainment activities. 
    
Ahmadi Sports Day is a chance for Kuwaitis and expatriates alike to compete in a series of fun-filled and exciting competitions representing different Sports Clubs, Ministries, Companies, Embassies and other organizations throughout Kuwait.
