KOC Honors a Group of Creative Women on International Women's Day

The Company has made tremendous efforts to enable Kuwaiti women and became the first in the oil sector in which women have the largest participation

Kuwaiti woman achievements were not restricted to the emergence of the modern state in Kuwait, but included the pre-oil phase and the beginning of the establishment of modern society

The world celebrates International Women's Day on March 8 each year. Kuwait Oil Company did not miss the opportunity to uphold the importance of the role of women in building a cohesive society that believes in the values of justice, freedom and decent life. It should be noted that KOC had a significant share of efforts to empower women and support and serve the society in Kuwait as a whole. However, it had already launched many initiatives and implemented several projects that contribute to its progress. The Company has made tremendous efforts to enable Kuwaiti women and became the first in the oil sector in which women have the largest participation. This is an indication of the success of the Company's efforts to enhance the status of Kuwaiti women, who have become a model for achievements. The Company organized a simple honorary ceremony for a group of leading Kuwaiti women in several fields. The ceremony was held at Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil & Gas Exhibition in the presence of KOC CEO Jamal Abdul-Aziz Jaafar, DCEO (Administration & Finance) Ahmed Al-Hamad, DCEO (West Kuwait) Bader Al-Munifi, Manager Public Relations and Information Group, Mohammad Al-Basri and Manager, Contract Manpower Kuwaitisation Group, Mohammad Jaffar, as well as a host of invitees and KOC employees.

In his speech, KOC CEO upheld the importance of the role played by Kuwaiti women and the status they have assumed in all fields. He expressed pride in "the achievements made by Kuwaiti women at the local and international levels, which were not limited to scientific and cultural fields, but also included several humanitarian fields." He pointed out that these achievements were not restricted to the emergence of modern state in Kuwait, but included the pre-oil phase and the beginning of the establishment of modern society. Kuwaiti women bore the burdens of daily life and continued to play their role. Today she holds the highest positions in the country with a distinguished presence and high efficiency alongside her male brothers.

Jaafar emphasized the oil sector’s belief in the vital role women play in building the renaissance of Kuwait and the importance of rehabilitation and development of the human element to run the sector, pointing out that Kuwaiti women had proved their competence in running KOC’s business. The Company aspires to empower women and enhance their role in building society and is committed to providing them with all means of success and development, he said.

Fourteen Kuwaiti women, each of whom was able to achieve excellence in her field, were included in the list of honorees. CEO Jamal Jaafar and Ms. Wafaa Al-Zaabi, deputy managing director of KPC and head of Professional Women Network in the oil sector, delivered memorial plaques for the honorees. At the end of the ceremony, the company organized a tour of Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil and Gas Exhibition, where they had n new educational experience, and listened to a detailed explanation of the history of Kuwait's oil and gas industry.

A Kuwaiti actress, One of the most prominent artists in the Gulf. She has figured prominently in the television and theatrical comedy
She started her career on television in the early 1960s, and participated in many television productions, most notably (Peace Be on the World of, Aunt Qumasha, House of our Father)
She also worked in several plays with both the Kuwaiti Theatre Troupe and Arab Theatre Troupe

Hayat Al-Fahad, actress
Hayat Al-Fahad is considered one of the most prominent female artists in the Gulf region. Besides being an actress, she is a poet and scriptwriter who has presented a great deal of television works. By the end of 1970s, she published a collection of poems entitled "Etab".
During her career, she has performed many serials, plays and television appearances. She also served as a broadcaster on Kuwait Radio between 1965 and 1968, during which she presented a number of programs

Mariam Al-Saleh, actress
Mariam Al-Saleh is among the first Kuwaiti women to stand on stage. In the mid-fifties, she participated, while she was still a student in primary stage, in a play entitled "Obedience". After years, she participated in a play entitled "Saqr Quraish". Her first series in television was entitled "When it is over, no need to be angry and raise your voice."
She graduated from the Institute of Dramatic Studies in 1968 and graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in 1979. She also received her master's degree in directing from the University of Bristol. At the beginning of her career, she worked in the Ministry of Health and then moved to Kuwait Radio and produced several radio broadcasts.

Bibi Al-Ayoub, activist in charitable work
She became famous for her charity campaigns to feed the needy, the poor in Kuwait. She started to feed street workers to create a generation of young people who are quick to help in preparing meals and feed the workers. Al-Ayoub launched several charity campaign that attracted many young volunteers, including "Draw a Smile" and "Feed the Fasting".

Sara Sadeq, architect
Since her graduation in 2005 and the opening of her own office in 2010, she has scored many achievements. She has been awarded many leading architectural projects in the GCC countries, including 12 projects spanning Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al-Ain and Ajman, most notably designing Delma City Resort.

Sheikha Al-Majed, inventor of the “ePen”
Works in computer engineering. She is the inventor of the "ePen" for the blind, which she completed in 2003. It is a Braille writing pen. Sheikha was awarded a patent in 2008 before the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Talent and Creativity adopted the invention. She had articipated in many local and international exhibitions, including “Expo Milan, 2015”.

Hawraa Al-Qallaf, Inventor of the “Bracelet for Parents with Hearing Disabilities
The invention consists of two separate wireless devices, one a headset and the other a bracelet. She invented the bracelet when she was 17 years old. She participated in many competitions and won prizes, the most recent of which was the “Women's Innovation Award” and the “Young Arab Model Award” from the League of Arab States.

Manar Al-Hashash, United Nations eLeader
A Kuwaiti engineer designated by the United Nations as the UN e-Leader. Microsoft has chosen her to be an arbitrator in the jury that is responsible for the final round of the Microsoft Cup competition. She is also the General Secretary of the Kuwait e-Award.
In 2016, World Congress listed her on its Social Responsibility annual list of 50 individuals classified as the most influential in the world.

Farah Shaaban and Sana al-Qamlas, co-founders of Umniah Plastic Recycling Factory
Farah and Sanaa together with Saud Al-Fawzan established Umniah factory to recycle plastic, while also working in the field of environmental conservation. The factory processes and sorts all plastic materials and then inserts them into modern machines. The factory was built with individual efforts and funded by the National Small and Medium Enterprise Support Fund.

Jouri Al-Azmi, winner of the Arab Reading Challenge
It is true that Jouri was deprived of the grace of sight, but she has the foresight and willpower that made her outperform many of the sighted. Although she is still 15 years old, she has lived a love story with books and reading since the age of seven. Nevertheless, she was able to overcome her handicap, and was able to win "Arab Reading Challenge," where she exceeded 16 thousand students participating in reading 50 Braille books in a year.
