Workshop on ESP Failure & Trips in N&WK

The Field Development Groups in North & West Kuwait initiated a workshop on Electric Submersible Pumps Failure & Trips, in cooperation with Shell NKCO ETSA.

The objective of the workshop was to involve all stakeholders, including contractors, in the management of Electric Submersible Pumps to assess learnings and improvements efforts to increase the run life of the pumps and reduce the avoidable surface trips in North & West Kuwait fields.

This is vital to North Kuwait's production objectives, as more than 90 percent of producer wells are installed with those pumps.

Mater also encouraged all participants to have open and collaborative discussions that would lead to identifying best practices, recommendations, and new technologies that can be implemented to reduce failures, losses (including ESP trips), and production deferments.

900.2.jpgFrom his side, Shell NKCO ETSA Contract Manager, Henri Jaspers, as part of the management's opening speech also stressed the need to continuously explore various initiatives to improve ESP performance and mitigations, especially for premature failures that lead to repeated workovers.

As part of the opening ceremony, presentations were delivered by FD N&WK, Drilling & Workover Technical Services-V, and Well Intervention- Artificial Lift Teams. The contractor engagement plan was also shared for the contractors' sessions, separately between North Kuwait and West Kuwait due to the peculiarity of the failure modes and fields.
