DCEO Planning & Finance Bader Al-Attar recently
received KOC engineers Jarrah Al-Ruwaih from the Reservoir Management Team and
Abdul Mohsen Al-Qenaie from the Exploration Remediation Team to honor them for
winning the first place prize in the Hackathon Digitization Competition which
was organized by the Ministry of Oil.
The event was also attended by Team Leader Reservoir
Management Mohammed Al-Bahar, and featured a presentation on the winning system
that was created. In part, the presentation focused on how this innovation adds
value to the Company in terms of sustaining production and cost-savings for
KOC.

The KOC engineers were part of a team that also
included Engineer Firas Al Salem from KGOC. Together, the team developed a
logarithm capable of monitoring data from submersible electric pumps, based on
real-time data from the wells. Monitoring this information allows for the
detection and reporting of problems, such as low oil flow, punctured pipes, and
equipment suffering from excessive wear and degradation.
The competition brought together participants from all
oil sector companies and the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR).
After considerable efforts were made by its members to invent an appropriate
system, the team won first place in the competition, and the evaluation
committee decided to award it a gold medal.
KOC is considering adopting the early monitoring
system developed by the team and applying it to a pilot project in order to
assess the added value it has the potential to produce.
