6 November event

Under the patronage and presence of the KOC CEO, Mr. Emad Mahmoud Sultan, the Company organized a special ceremony on the 28th  anniversary of extinguishing the last burning oil well, at the Four Seasons Hotel, Kuwait.

KOC DCEOs, Group Managers, Team Leaders as well as senior oil sector figures attended the ceremony. KOC CEO delivered a speech in which he commended the efforts of KOC fire team and their achievements in extinguishing a large number of burned wells in record time.

Two short films about the anniversary were then screened, one of which included an interview with members of the Kuwait National Focal Point, where they talked about the UN Compensation Commission and Kuwait’s efforts to restore the environment.


Then, the Soil Remediation Projects II Team Leader Mr. Muthanna Al-Momin delivered a presentation in which he reviewed the achievements of Kuwait Environment Remediation Program.
Mr. Waleed Roy from KISR then announced the launch of KOC’s book “Restoring the Nature of Kuwait”, which is the result of cooperation between the Company and KISR. The book illustrates in detail the tremendous efforts made by several parties to restore the environment and rid it of the effects of the brutal invasion. Copies of the book were presented to the attendees.

At the end of the first portion of the ceremony, a short film about the efforts of the late Kuwaiti Minister of Health Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Awadhi in environmental protection was screened.
The second portion of the ceremony was held under the patronage of the Minister of Oil and the Minister of Electricity & Water Dr. Khalid Al-Fadhel and in cooperation between KOC and Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS) to commemorate the "International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict."

Representatives of several government entities, including the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Interior, the National Guard, Directors of the General Directorate of Fire Service and a host of invited guests attended.
KOC CEO, Mr. Emad Mahmoud Sultan, delivered the speech of the Minister. The Chairwoman of the Board of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society, Mrs. Wijdan Al-Oqab, delivered a similar speech.

A short film entitled "Why 6 November?" was then screened, followed by honoring government agencies, sponsors and organizers of the ceremony. KEPS awarded the Medal of Environmental Championships to several governmental entities and senior figures, including KOC, KOC CEO, Manager PR&I Group, General Directors of Kuwait Fire Service from 1955 to 2019, and the youngest volunteer in firefighting during the invasion.
