The Emergency Department of Ahmadi Hospital is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We offer specialized emergency care to children from birth to 12 years of age. Our team of nurses, doctors and reception staff are here to provide emergency care and to look after children and their families. Your child’s treatment, safety and comfort are of great importance to us and we will do everything we can to make their visit to the emergency department as convenient as possible. We aim to care for your child as soon as we can and as well as we can, but the length of your wait will depend on the number of patients in the department as a whole, and the severity of those patient’s injuries and illnesses.
What happens in the Emergency Department?
On arriving at the emergency department, children are registered in by our reception staff. Children are then assessed by our triage nurse, who will decide on the urgency of your child’s condition. This involves taking brief details of your child’s injury or illness, offering pain relief and organizing treatments appropriate to your child’s condition. The nursing team have extensive experience in caring for children who are acutely unwell or injured. As well as patients in the waiting room and treatment areas, we also see children brought in by ambulance into the resuscitation room, so the department can be very busy, even when the waiting room looks quiet. Please be mindful and considerate as sometimes people may be called before you, despite having arrived after you. This may be because they have a more urgent medical need, or need additional nursing care or treatment.
